Health Insurance Estimates

National and State Health Insurance Estimates
The U.S. Census Bureau collects health insurance data in the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS) and in the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). National and state estimates since 1987 are available from the CPS. Only national estimates are available from the SIPP.

Small Area Health Insurance Estimates

The Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program provides model-based estimates of health insurance coverage for counties and states.

In July 2005 the program developed the following experimental estimates for counties and states for 2000:

  • Total population with and without health insurance coverage
  • Children under age 18 with and without health insurance coverage.

The SAHIE program is conducting research on production of estimates for other age groups and demographic characteristics.
